About the Opioid Settlement Funds in Massachusetts
In 2021, attorneys general across the United States reached an agreement with pharmacies and opioid manufacturers to settle legal claims over their actions which fueled the opioid epidemic. As a result of this settlement, the state of Massachusetts is receiving more than $900 million through 2038 to fund substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support. For more information regarding how funds will be distributed and strategies that municipalities are allowed to fund, please refer to the Massachusetts State Subdivision Agreement (SSA).
Opioid Abatement Funding in West Boylston
West Boylston is scheduled to receive a total of $460,948 in opioid abatement funds by 2039. In early 2026, the Central MA Regional Health Department convened an Opioid Workgroup with representatives from Town Departments and community organizations to collaboratively develop priorities and interventions to address substance use in West Boylston. To ensure these funds reflect real community needs, the Workgroup hosted a community listening session on March 3, 2026, accompanied by a community survey to gather input. Based on this feedback, the workgroup is developing and implementing an action plan that will support the health and well-being of West Boylston residents.

Peer Recovery Support Centers
Peer Recovery Support Centers are accessible peer-led spaces that provide individuals in recovery from substance use, as well as family and loved ones affected by addition, the opportunity to offer and receive support in their community environment.
A guiding principle of the centers is the belief that people need human connection, community inclusion, and peer support, as well as access to non-clinical resources, to build recovery capital, improve quality of life, and sustain recovery. This is achieved via education and capacity building, social events, recreational and wellness activities, one on one peer support, community engagement, support groups, linkage, and referral, to support members in developing their own unique individual, social, and community support, to help prevent or reduce impact of relapse and promote long-term recovery from addiction.
