Electrical Permit & Fee Schedule

Individuals that perform electrical work in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must be licensed.

All licensed person must register with the Town’s Building Department and provide a Certificate of Insurance prior to beginning any work.   No permits will be given unless there is a currently valid license and Certificate of Insurance on file.

NOTE: Changes to Electrical Service requires contacting the Municipal Light Plant (MLP). No Electrical Permit will be issued until the MLP is notified.

Electrical Permit Fee Schedule

Residential Permit Fees

  • New single or two-family residential:   $150.00 base fee includes 3 inspections (plus $60 per each additional inspection)
  • Water Heater:   $60.00 (a plumbing permit may also be required.)
  • All other work:   $60.00 per inspection

Commercial, Industrial & Institutional

  • New Commercial Building:  $250.00 base fee includes 3 inspections  (plus $30 for each meter, plus $60 for each additional inspection)
  • Trailer Panel:  $60.00
  • Electrical Demolition:  $60.00
  • All other work $60.00 per inspection

Commercial Yearly Maintenance Permits

  • Industrial, manufacturing and institutional buildings that employ electricians full-time for general premises maintenance must pay a flat rate of $400.00 per year.  Electricians must file a monthly written report with the wiring inspector of work done the previous month.  Please use the standard permit form.

Re-inspection for Residential, Commercial, Industrial and Institutional

  • Any re-inspection work for wiring required due to defective work, improper materials, or other contractor related cause, will require a re-inspection fee of $60.00.  Re-inspection will take place only after the fee has been paid.

Failure to Obtain Permit
Applicants failing to obtain a permit as required will be subject to an additional permit fee, above and beyond the required fee
