Applications to Serve on a Town Board/Committee with Letters of Interest are Being Requested for Appointment to the newly formed Disability Commission
The Office of the Town Administrator is soliciting Applications to Serve on a Town Board/Committee with letters of interest for residents who are interested in being appointed to the Disability Commission. This volunteer Commission is made up of 7 members with terms of appointment to be 1, 2, and 3 years. The Commission shall be made up of 5 residents with disabilities, one member being a resident who is an immediate family members of an individual with disabilities and one member who is an elected or appointed official in the Town. The role of the Commission includes, but is not limited to, researching local problems of people with disabilities, serving as a resource to the Town ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws affecting people with disabilities; and reviewing and making recommendations about Town policies, procedures, services, activities and facilities of departments, and agencies as they affect people with disabilities.
The Town has engaged the services of the Collins Center who is Preparing an Accessibility Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan for the Town of West Boylston. Once the Self-Evaluation is completed, the Commission will work collaboratively with the Center Team to develop the Transition Plan. The Commission will take the lead role in the selection, prioritization and implementation schedule of programmatic and facilities mitigation steps, as well as the public input process. The Disability Commission letters of interest should include answers to the following three questions: (1) why the applicant is interested in joining the Disability Commission, (2) what professional and/or personal experiences does the applicant have that has prepared them for being a contributing member to the Disability Commission, (3) what does the applicant feel that they can contribute to the Disability Commission.
