The Board of Health is made up of 5 residents, appointed by the Town Administrator for 3-year terms.  The Board of Health is a statutory board, which gets its authority under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 111.

Among our many activities are:

  • Inspect food and milk retailers
  • Enforce State Sanitary Code for housing violations
  • Respond to nuisance complaints
  • Inspect restaurants, retail store and workplace for compliance with Regulation for the Sale of Tobacco Products to Minors and the Massachusetts Smoke-free Workplace Law.

Creation
Town meeting of March 23, 1891, under Article 16, authorized the election of a three-member Board of Health. Chapter 23 of the Acts of 1995 changed the Board from elected to appointed. At that time, the Board was expanded from three to five members.
