Change in Date for the Upcoming Special Town Meeting

Dear Resident,

In the coming weeks, you will be asked to authorize the Town to borrow money for the construction of a new Senior Center. This authorization for a debt exclusion (borrowing money outside of the limits of Prop 2 ½) requires two things:

  • 2/3 vote of approval at a town meeting
  • majority vote in a town election

Town meeting is a venue residents rely upon to receive info and discuss important considerations for town business - most especially for decisions regarding large expenditures such as the senior center construction.

This year, inclement weather, and a mistake on my part, caused us to miss the deadline for posting the town meeting warrant for the planned February 26th meeting.   That meant the special town meeting date had to be moved to Wednesday, February 28th.   This change in schedule now means the February 27th special election will take place the day before the February 28th special town meeting. This is most unfortunate and I sincerely regret the error.

As you remember from our work on the new Police Station, we do a number of things to provide information and answer questions for voters about these important decisions. Given this year’s scheduling dilemma, I encourage you to obtain information on the Senior Center project in advance of voting at the special town election on February 27th, and to attend the special town meeting on February 28th to complete the process to render a decision on this project.

How to obtain info on the Senior Center project:

  • Check out the Town Meeting Informational Mailer that will be sent to each household next week
  •  Attend one of our 7 Information Sessions being held at various locations and times between Feb 17th and Feb 24th – call me or see our website for details
  •  View the recorded February 17th Information session on our YouTube link on the WBPA-TV page of our website (https://www.westboylston-ma.gov/wbpa-public-access-tv).  It will be available on Sunday,  February 18th
  •  View detailed project info and related costs which will  be placed on our website by Tuesday, Feb 20th  (https://www.westboylston-ma.gov/facilities-implementation-strategic-plan...)
  •  Look for hard-copy handouts of these various information brochures which will be available starting on Tuesday, February 20th at the Town Hall, Senior Center, and Library

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with questions on this project, and I’ll connect you with the information you need.

Sincerely,

Anita Scheipers, Town Administrator
