The new Police Station is being constructed at 141 Sterling Street.

Here's the monthly update for taxpayers and residents:

  • $5,185 million = Total Budget
  • September 2017 = Construction Complete
  • October 2017 = Facility Occupied and Operational

October Update

  1. What is the current status? The building is completed!  The public was invited to an Open House on October 28.  We are moving in our equipment, files, etc. 
  2. Are we on budget? The project is projected to be completed under budget. The final accounting is expected to take another four to six weeks as remaining invoices come in.
  3. Are we on time? Yes.
  4. Are we on spec? Yes, only minor deviations have been made at the request and direction of the Owner. All contract items have been installed as specified.
  5. What is the expected status as of November 30? We will have completed the move of the Police Department from the Public Safety to our new headquarters.  

August - September Update

  1. What is the current status? Interior finish flooring, ceilings, paint light fixtures, plumbing fixture and cabinetry are all being installed. All mechanical systems are being inspected, started and tested over the next two weeks.
  2. Are we on budget? The project is projected to be completed under budget.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes.
  4. Are we on spec? Yes, only minor deviations have been made at the request and direction of the Owner. All contract items have been installed as specified.
  5. What is expected status as of September and October? Construction complete in September; furniture fixtures and equipment move in late October.

July Update

  1. What is the current status? Curbing, landscape, parking lot lighting and fencing is being installed, excess soil is being removed from the site. Exterior finishes are largely complete with minor punchlist items being addressed, exterior overhead doors are installed and finish entrances will be installed by month's end. Interior finish such as ceilings, paint wall and floor tile are being installed through the building. Finish electrical and plumbing fixture are being installed with HVAC and Fire Sprinklers following behind other finish trades.
  2. Are we on budget? The project remains on budget with the final furniture commitment being recent authorized by the FISP.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes
  4. Are we on spec? Yes, only minor deviations have been made at the request and directions of the Owner. All contract items have been installed as specified.
  5. What is expected status as of August 31st? All system will be undergoing inspections by the local inspectors as well as the Engineers of Record, this will allow the systems to punch-listed and start-up following right behind.

June Update

  1. What is the current status? Exterior paving is in place. Interior drywall is taped and sanded in many areas. The second floor is receiving primer and first coat of color. Final furniture selections have been made and the committee is reviewing costs.
  2. Are we on budget? Yes.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes, for construction completion in September. We plan to occupy the facility in October after emergency systems are tested and furniture is installed. 
  4. Are we on spec? Yes, only minor deviation have been made at the request and directions of the Owner. All contract items have been installed as specified.
  5. What is expected status as of July 30th? Exterior siding and roofing complete. Retaining walls constructed and sidewalks placed. Landscape grading done and some areas receiving seed mix. Interior plumbing, electrical, hvac will continue and sub-flooring will continue. Ceiling grid will start to be installed, Permanent power will be activated. All areas will be primed and have received the first coat of color.

May Update

  1. What is the current status? Exterior work impacted by weather though still on schedule. Interior trades continue to make progress; in addition to plumbing, electrical and HVAC, work has begun on telephone, data, and communications infrastructure. Utility extension to water, sewer and storm drainage have been made in Route 12

  3. Are we on time?  Yes
  4. Are we on spec? Yes
  5. What is expected status as of June 30th? Internal work will continue. Drywall will be installed with sanding and prime painting following right behind. External site work such as retaining walls,  grading, loam and pavement subbase will be significantly progressed.

April Update

  1. What is the current status? Masonry work nearing completion. Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Sprinkler, and Electrical is roughed in throughout the building.
  2. Are we on budget? Yes.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes.
  4. Are we on spec? Yes.
  5. What is expected status as of May 31st? Internal work (plumbing, electrical, etc) continues and external site work such as drainage and retaining walls begins.

March Update

  1. What is the current status? Masonry work is nearly complete. Exterior roofing and building wrap is underway and windows are starting to be installed.
  2. Are we on budget?  Yes.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes.
  4. Are we on spec? Yes. 
  5. What is expected status as of April 30th?  Site work and siding will be the largest visible activities. HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing trades will be underway inside the facility.

February Update

  1. What is the current status? General contractor RAC Builders has completed all foundation work, front exterior walls framed, roof trusses about to be installed, and floor trusses are being installed for the front 2-story portion of the building.
  2. Are we on budget?  Yes. In good shape.
  3. Are we on time?  Yes. We are approx. 1 month ahead of schedule.
  4. Are we on spec? Yes.  We have changed which contractors will be completing the site work, but no substantive changes have been made to the building design.
  5. What is expected status as of March 31st?  The exterior walls will be sheathed and wrapped, concrete floor slabs will be set for cells and garage area, and site work will continue as weather allows.

November Update

Cardinal Construction, Inc. of Worcester, MA has been selected as the Owner's Project Manager (OPM) for this project.  The Project Executive from Cardinal Construction is Mr. Anthony DiLuzio, who has 20 years of direct field experience.

Reinhardt & Associates of Agawam, MA is the Architect for the project.  Reinhart & Associates has designed public safety buildings for seven other Massachusetts communities.

The Board of Selectmen are currently working on a contract with the low bidder, RAC Builders of Agawam, MA for a total construction price of $4,047,000.
