Blueberry Hill Parking

Applicant: The Open Space lmplementation Committee and the Conservation Commission 

The Open Space Imentation Committee and the Conservation Commission (Proponents) have been working with the Greater Worcester Land Trust (GWLT), toprovide a safe access to property that the town purchased for Open Space in May of2017. The work currently proposed includes surveying and marking the propertycorners, and clearing and grading an area to provide a gravel parking area for 6-8 cars and the driveway to safely access Goodale Street, as well as installation of a culvert to cross an existing ditch on the property. The October 2016 Town Meeting authorized the purchase of this property for $172,500.00 through the Open Space Protection portion of the Community Preservation Funding program to provide limited passive recreation. The maintenance of the trails and parking area will be completed by volunteers, with snow plowing done by Town DPW personnel. Security will be provided by Town Police and the design is such that the parking area will be visible from the street.

Painting Historical portion of Library exterior

Applicant: Beaman Memorial Public Library 

The Beaman Library was built in l9l2.In 2016, it was accepted to the National Register of Historic Places. The painted surfaces on the exterior of the original library need painting. These
areas are along the roof line, and around the doors and windows. At some point in the past, leadpaint was used, and therefore certified lead abatement contractors must be used.
This proposal benefits the town of West Boylston because it allows the Library to correctly handie this buiiding maintenance issue that aiso poses a heaith risk.
The Library hopes fhatthe Community Preservation Committee will consider this request as it falls under three of the CPC Goals: Goal 1: To acquire, preserve, rehabilitate or restore historic resources, which includes historic documents or artifacts as well as historic buildings, and real property Goal2: To increase the Town's abilify to protect environmentally sensitive, historic and culturally significant properties
Goal3: To recognize, preserve and enhance the historic heritage and character of the Town of West Boylston for current and future generations.

Cemetery Chapel Repointing

The Mount Vernon Cemetery Board of Trustees are seeking quotes on removing damaged or compromised mortar and repainting same on our " treasured hidden gem"- The Holbrook Chapel.
The Holbrook Chapel construction was completed in 1891. It was gifted to the Town of West Boylston for use as a chapel for burials and tomb space for winter storage. Mount Vernon Cemetery along with The
Holbrook Chapel were placed on The National Register of Historic Places in 2008.The Holbrook Chapel is an 8-sided stone structure. The Holbrook Chapel is constructed with an all slate
roof, including copper flashing and valleys. The exterior is round fieldstone with a stone blockfoundation. There are 8 original stained glass windows which complement the stone structure. The
interior walls are decorative v-board and the roof framework is comprised of large handcrafted beams.The mortar joints on the Holbrook Chapel have become weathered, weakened, and are beginning to fail.
The Cemetery Board ofTrustees are seeking quotes for work to be completed in full. The work will include removal of all poor mortar joints, including hairline voids. The contractor will be expected to enlarge theareas of compromise so that the appropriate mortar will bond. The Cemetery Board of Trustees expect that great care and attention will be used in matching existing mortar colors and restoring the existingraised mortar bead in all the exterior mortar joints.

Rebuilding Chimney on Historical Portion of the Library

The Beaman Llbrary was built inl9l2.In 2016, it was accepted to the National Register of Historic Places. The original chimney is crumbling. As it is a historic piece of the building the Library Trustees would like to rebuild it. It is my hope that the CPC will consider this request as I believe it falls under CPC Goal #2,to "lncrease the town's ability to protect environmentally sensitive, historic and culturally slgnificant properties", and also goals #1 and #3 for the CPC's historic preservation goals and criteria. Goal 1: To acquire, preserve, rehabilitate or restore historic resources, which includes historic documents or artifacts as well as historic buildings,and real property" "Goal 3: Recognize, preserve and enhance the historic heritage and character of the Town of west Boylston for current and future generations."
