Important Change in the Annual Town Election Date

The date of the Annual Town Election is regulated by General Bylaws Article I, Town Meetings and Election, Section 1. The Town currently holds its Annual Town Election the first Tuesday in April. Town Meeting Action, contingent upon Attorney General approval, has voted to amend this section at the November 9th adjourned session of the October 19, 2009 Semi-Annual Town Meeting. It was unanimously voted under Warrant Article 2, to strike out the first sentence of Section 1 and replace it with; "The annual town election shall be held on the first Tuesday in June each year."

The Town Clerk's Office received Attorney General apporoval of this bylaw change on Feb.11th. The new General Bylaws will be in effect once it is posted and published by the Town Clerk's Office pursuant to G.L. c 40 section 32. The Annual Town Election date will change to the first Tuesday in June of 2011.

An annotated review of the Town of West Boylston General Bylaws, Article I Section 1 is as follows;

ARTICLE I, TOWN MEETINGS AND ELECTIONS
Section 1
The annual town election shall be held on the first Tuesday in April of each year.  The annual town election shall be held on the first Tuesday in June each year. All officers which are required by law to be elected by ballot and all matters, the determination of which are required by law to be on the ballot, shall be considered at this time.

There shall be two scheduled town meetings each year. All business other than that stated above, will be considered either at the Semi-annual Town Meeting to be held the third week in May or at the Semi-annual Town meeting to be held in the third week in October at times designated by the Board of Selectmen.

The Moderator shall to the time and date establish any adjournment of such meetings. The Board of Selectmen, by a majority vote, may convene Special Town meetings at any other time during the year. Any adjournment of such meetings shall be to the time and date established by the Moderator.
