Mission Statement
The Agricultural Commission shall serve as facilitators for encouraging the pursuit of agriculture in town, promoting agricultural based economic opportunities, acting as mediators on farming issues, working for preservation of prime agricultural lands, pursuing all initiatives appropriate to create a sustainable agricultural community, and preserving the rural character of West Boylston, Massachusetts.

The Agricultural Commission consists of 7 members appointed by the Town Administrator for 3-year terms.  Four of the members must receive some of their income from farming.

Member Biographies

Frank Perla is the owner and operator of Woodgate Farm.  For 15 years, Frank and his family have run a full service equestrian program from the 22 acre farm in West Boylston, Massachusetts.  Frank's job is to care for and raise the 25 horses that live on the farm. He also boards, trains ,and teaches children and adults to ride horses.

Sighle Philbin, owns and operates French Hill Farm, along with Phil Philbin, where they grow Christmas trees.  French Hill Farm was established in 1985. Customers can choose and cut their own fir tree, go for a hayride and visit with their Arabian  horse. They recently finished the reconstruction of an antique handhewn timberframe barn they saved from destruction.

Establishment
The Agricultural Commission was established by vote of the October 20, 2008 Semi-Annual
Town Meeting. Article XXXV of General Bylaws outlines membership and qualifications, meetings, duties and quorum requirements of the Commission.
