Leon A. Gaumond Jr.
Town Administrator

The ALB Cooperative Eradication Program will begin contacting residents located within the projected treatment areas the week of February 22, 2010.  A written notice as well as a Treatment Release Form for the treatment program will be provided to property owners within the targeted treatment areas.  Residents will also receive a “Question & Answers” factsheet on the use of chemical treatments.

Treatments for eradication will begin on or about April 19, 2010, via direct trunk injection to the designated host tree, within portions of the city of Worcester, as well as portions of the surrounding communities of Holden, West Boylston, Boylston and Shrewsbury.  Chemical treatments for ALB eradication have been completed in Illinois and New Jersey.  They continue to be utilized in New York and all locations have shown encouraging results.

The ALB Cooperative Eradication Program will host three public meetings to present plans for treatments, discuss the 2010-2011 Operational Plans and answer any questions about the program.  The meetings are open to the public and will be held on:

Monday, March 1, 2010
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Holden Senior Center, 1130 Main Street, Holden, MA

Tuesday, March 2, 2010
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Worcester Public Library (Saxe Room), 3 Salem Square, Worcester, MA

Wednesday, March 3, 2010
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Beaman Memorial Library (Stiles Room), 8 Newton Street, West Boylston

The program will also increase surveys throughout all impacted communities with the goal to have the full extent of the infestation defined by June 30, 2011.  This means residents in Worcester, Holden, Shrewsbury, West Boylston and Boylston will see extensive survey staff in their neighborhoods over the coming year.

Residents can contact the ALB Cooperative Eradication Program directly with any comments or concerns: 508-852-8090 or 866-702-9938, or to learn more online visit:
