In 1878 The West Boylston Public Library was established. The library was housed in the Town Hall during the construction of the reservoir.
In 1911 George Calvin Rice offered to build a new library if the town agreed to buy a plot of land at the intersection of Newton and Central Street and to name the library the "Beaman Memorial Public Library" in honor of his great-great grandfather Major Ezra Beaman. Located on North Main Street in Oakdale, the Methodist Church was built in 1858. This church was the only church in town still in its original building on its original site. All others were relocated due to the building of the reservoir.  Oakdale Post Office Photo by Lynn Valois
